I have a degree from a top-twenty school but feel like it did very little to prepare for me life. I can’t think of a single profound truth I learned there. Yes, it exposed me to diverse viewpoints, but I’ve always been a big reader who seeks out new ideas, so even there I’m not so sure.

OTOH, the other day I went on a date with a woman who had dropped out of high school, later became a massage therapist, then opened a very successful massage school in Costa Rica. She was one of the most interesting dates I’ve had by far.

It takes skill and hard work to get an MBA, but in my world (tech startups) if takes even more of both to be successful.

I confess I have a bit of a chip on my shoulder because I was shut out of jobs when younger because I didn’t have an MBA. Once I realized my options were limited, I gave myself a year to either go back to school or start my own company. I ended up doing the latter.

Well-loved. Like or Dislike: Thumb up 11 Thumb down 1

Wow…Peter? As a former professional ballerina now MD, I find your comments small minded and ignorant. For many years I did not have any formal education beyond high school as I was traveling the world and was well compensated for my talent. Only later in life did I pursue higher education and I can assure you my life was anything but lazy!
